Day 18: Lautterbrunnen to Koblenz
Leaving Switzerland, we made a quick stop after
customs in Germany for a 10 euro lunch of schnitzel and chips,
really expensive, but it's probably the last time I'll ever
get to have schnitzel so I splurged! After lunch, we drove a
little into the town of Hiedelberg where we got drowned with
rain. The granite cobblestone streets were nice, and there were
a lot of small shops that would have been fun to check out,
but the rain kept us from doing much. We ended up spending our
30 or so minutes there going to McD's and getting some ice cream
(a sundae) and a milkshake. It was cold
and rainy, and here we were having ice cream... doesn't make
sense does it? We really should have just
stayed at the little internet cafe right by the coach stop.
Back on the bus, Christie
forgot the souvenirs she just bought at the shop and so we had
to turn around to get them even though we were running a tad
bit late. Heh, good thing it wasn't Ray who forgot them....
he would've been in soooo much trouble :) (Ray
and Christie were the married couple on the tour). Getting
back on the road again, we made our way into the little German
town of St. Goar.
Driving along the Rhine
river, we saw lots of barges, and Lorelei... keep your eyes
on the road jacko! Getting into St. Goar, we were about an hour
early for our beer stein demo, and so a bunch of us got together
and hackey sacked. I guess it's safe to say my hackey sack is
well cultured now, having been to so many countries and all
:) Walking down the street and into the stein shop, I was completely
paranoid about swinging my backpack and knocking something over.
Breaking one stein was more than enough for me on this trip,
didn't want to add to that number. You could get a first edition
beer stein with a piece of the Berlin Wall for 1500 euros, or
for the poorer ones out there, 125 euros for a 4th edition.
Heh, everyone was tempted to get one, but we were all just scared
of breaking the things after we got them. I did end up getting
a couple of pewter mini steins though (and I still had the broken
one) so I was pretty much all steined out. Our next stop was
another wine tasting just up the street. We headed up an alley,
and down into a danky dark wine cellar where we tasted
shots of five different wines. All of them were really sweet,
and tasted almost like juice. It's amazing what a little bit
of wine does to you... walking back to the coach was amazingly
hard, going back up the stairs leading out of the cellar elicted
a cheer from the Contiki group that had just arrived for it's
wine tasting. Jumping back on the coach, a lil bit buzzed, we
made our way over to Nana's house.
Nana's house/hotel was nice,
it felt really homey. Heh, it was really a house, with like
15 rooms, that was converted into a hotel I think. The rooms
were all different, and all of the decor was interesting...
but our bathroom didn't have a light, nor any tp... wonder what
they were expecting us to do. The shower was really interesting,
absolutely no pressure, and the water actually came down from
a hole in the ceiling. Talking with Matt
and CJ later, they told me the pressure was fine when they showered...
I guess the shower doesn't like me :( Dinner
was awesome... minus the scare :X Pork and chips and cheese
cake. We played a little bit of UNO and asshole afterwards,
and then headed up to bed at 11:30. Sorry
Matt... I have no idea what I was thinking :X But
yea... I ended up sharing (kinda) a bed with Matt... lol CJ
got the single to himself, so I guess everything worked out?
Tomorrow's going to be another big day... AMSTERDAM!
OMG
:( It's almost over... What am I going to do about Stace? I
just can't stop thinking about her, and I'm totally falling
for her. I just don't know whether or not we should talk about
it... totally scared :(
I just wish she knew what
I thought and felt towards her...
and I wish I knew what she felt and thought about me...
