Day 4, 9pm: Paris - Château de Cruix
Well it's not 9pm anymore... I ended up partying the night away...
but more on that in a bit.
We left Paris early this morning, drove through the rain and
arrived in Frances' Beaujolais region, where wine vineyards
covered the rolling hills. But first, we stopped off at Fontainebleau,
where Napoleon rallied his troops for some big battle. It was
rainy, and we only had like half an hour, so most of us just
sat at the nearby cafe.
Our next destination was a nice château that Contiki had
bought, complete with pool, Cave and plenty of alcohol. After
dropping our bags off in our rooms (roomed with Matt and Canadian
Steve) we headed off to a lesson in wine tasting. Right next
to our Château was a local winery where we learned how
to smell, look at, and taste wine properly. Bleh, first time
ever that I really tasted wine... not my thing, although the
cheese and pizza crackers they had were delicious!
We were also lucky in that the owner of the winery stopped by
and allowed us to taste the Eau de Vi, a very potent liquor
that tasted and smelled like rubbing alcohol and burned all
the way down. Pretty potent stuff (50% alcohol), I had to chase
it with a glass of wine. This stuff was so potent that there
was a little snake it in, showing how the alcohol was able to
preserve it completely. Feeling a bit buzzed, we all made our
ways back to the château for a tasty dinner of ribs, cheese
and sour milk cake. My turn to be a dishie, wasn't too bad though
cause all we had to do was clear the tables and not actually
wash the dishes.
Tonight was our first party night, with the theme of school
disco... I had no idea what to wear, so I did my best to dress
up as Alfalfa from the little rascals... I'm such a geek. The
party was down in the Cave, the basement of the château...
dark, smoky, and music blaring... there was LOTS to drink. Lets
just say, on this night, I doubled the total number of times
that I had ever been drunk before. Stace was looking good, I
hadn't ever seen her all dolled up so she definitely caught
my eye. She was drinking a beer, and while talking to her, I
found out that she liked it, so when she was done I went and
bought her another one, and got myself a Desperado (bottled
beer with tequila, went down easy)... and so it started. What
you might ask? I've got no friggin idea.
I'm so confused! I have no idea why I got her that drink...
or why I started dancing with her... or why I kissed her on
her cheek, or why she leaned back to kiss me back... I just
know that I did, and she did, and that I've got no regrets.
I just hope she doesn't either. Just go with it eh? To be honest,
I'm the most insecure guy in the world, but around her, it seems
to all melt away. I mean, she got me to DANCE! That's damn near
impossible... my best friends in high school couldn't get me
to dance, and yet this beautiful girl that I had met only a
few days earlier was already bringing out the best in me. I
was scared. Did I mention that she was my first real kiss? Heh,
I guess I know why people call alcohol liquid courage now. I
just don't know what to do. I mean, we're on vacation, should
I be expecting anything at all? She's definitely a nice girl,
cute too, and I definitely want her... but what if all of it
was just a one night affair to her? Why am I even thinking/stressing
about all this? Damnit Henry... just go with it, have fun, and
let things work themselves out.
