Day 4

Day 5: 4:30pm - Château de Cruix

We needed today. A nice relaxing day of nothingness, in the middle of nowhere... well, not exactly. Today we had a little trek to the Top of the World... rightfully named cause it took us a good sixty minutes of walking up steep hills to get there. There was a slight breeze, but it was still really hot, and I got all sweaty carrying our picnic basket and 2 bottles of wine up through the vineyards and rocky paths. It was nice though, Stacey was by my side the whole time, so I was treated to the beautiful scenery, as well as her :) That last part up that huge steep hill was killer, I almost gave up. But once again, all our effort was rewarded as we got a breathtaking view of the french countryside, it truly did seem like we were at the top of the world. Our bagette with cheese and ham lunch was delicious (even though I dropped one of the bread stick thingys), I also got to taste vegemite for the first time... no thx :X That stuff was way too salty, and we only had a bottle of water between 5-6 of us.

Today was pretty good, had it not been for that lil thing in the back of my mind telling me that I should talk to Stacey about last night. I kept my mouth shut though, didn't want to mess up a good thing. After spending a couple of hours up there, we started our walk back down the other side of the mountain. The terrain was extremely rocky, but at least it was all down hill. Having an extremely lighter pack, getting back to the Château only took about 45 minutes. The pool looked extremely enticing as we came up the driveway, and so after throwing down our packs, we all headed down for a nice dip in the pool. Swimming at a château in France's wine country... I could totally get used to this! Me and Stace wrote out our postcards that we got in Paris, as well as caught up on our journals, a much needed relaxing change from the rigors of the past few days.

Today was also Father's day back home, I got a calling card from the bar and called home to say Happy Father's day to my dad, and check in with everyone. I had only written home once at the start of the trip, and I hadn't called yet, so I'm sure my mom was extra worried. They sounded happy to hear from me, and in 2 minutes, I was off the phone and on my merry way :) Too bad I still had like 50 credits left on my France only phone card. I decided to ring up my best friend back home (Stef) and ask her what to do about Stace. Took me a few tries to finally get through, but when I did, she couldn't believe what I had told her. First off, me being drunk? Secondly, me kissing a girl? Heh, I think she was impressed :) She gave me some pretty good advice though, which was basically, don't mess up. We've been friends through most of Uni, and each time finals roll around I would always tell her to "don't F up". Heh, this was a nice change from the norm. She told me to just keep quiet unless it happens again, and if it does, only then am I allowed to talk to her about it. She also cautioned me about falling for a girl who I might not ever see again 20 days from now. Damn, she's good at giving advice... I guess me and my friends didn't nickname her "mom" for nothing.

After dinner, we spent the rest of the up in Ray and Christie's room playing UNO, and talking about Australia and other random things. It was pretty fun, at one point I think we had like 7-8 people in the game, but the only thing that mattered was having Stace next to me the whole time ;) She hasn't said anything about last night, so I'm not about to either... I guess I'll just stick with what mom told me. Almost forgot about one of the most awkward moments in my life. As me and Stace were walking over to Ray's room for UNO, Ray pop's up and asks us if we were a couple now (I guess he saw us last night), I was completely stunned/dumbfounded. I started stuttering, and then to my disappointment, Stace calmly tells him, "No, I don't think so." Ouch :( Thanks a lot Ray! Heh, but I guess he was only trying to help things along...
