Day 8: 7:00am - Florence (Firenze)
Wow… Why’d I wake up so early? I was up at 6am
this morning cause I thought I heard my phone going off. I went
and checked and nothing showed up on the caller ID, so I stayed
up and did some hand laundry, showered, and now I’m here, on
a park bench, watching the sun rise over Florence. Last night
we all went to the Red Garter, and that was fun. Everyone was
dancing, and singing, and we all had plenty to drink. Me and
Stacey got cozy again… much more intimate this time, but I really
need to try and get her when I’m not buzzed though… I think
I also need to be a little less responsible. Walking out to
the coach from Red Garter last night, I was trying to keep everyone
in line and safe cause it was quite a walk back to the coach.
I thought one of seedy guys from the bar was bothering Kelsey,
so I told her to hurry up and get with the rest of the group,
to which she replied, “Why don’t you stop being sober and let
me be drunk!” from her, and the guy was also like, “Dude, I’m
with Contiki.” Guess I’ll take her off my people to watch over
list. Getting back to camp, we had a drink at the bar, and watched
some foosball games. I’m not really sure what to do about Stace,
but what’s new eh? I do know one thing though, I WANT HER! I
really haven’t figured this girl thing out yet though, but one
day at a time, and hope that everything works out. NO REGRETS!
An actual note I wrote to Stef: Italian guys are seedy. They’re
not shy/bashful… really gross and up in your face at clubs,
especially the old ones. Can you say ew?
I just realized that I left out the whole
2nd day of Florence in my journal…
Let’s see, we went to a leater demo in the morning at Leonardo’s
and bought leather stuff. I got a cool little leather box with
my initials, and also a couple of bookmarks and a nice photo
album for all my Europe pictures. Me and Stace went exploring
after the leather demo, and leading her through the crowds gave
me an excuse to hold her hand, tricky me ;) It turned out though,
that even when we weren’t in crowded areas, I found myself reaching
out to take her hand, or she would offer it to me, funny how
that worked out. We rejoined everyone for a guided tour of Florence,
and we got spiels on the various statues in the plaza, David
included. The tour led us through the streets of Florence, and
to the Duomo. Unfortunately we weren’t able to go up through
the dome, there just wasn’t enough time. Instead, we grabbed
a quick bite to eat, and went over to Academia, where the original
David stood. We stood in line for almost an hour, in the Italian
heat and humidity, so we were glad when it was finally our turn
to step inside. CHERI AND ERIN ARE A BUNCH OF CHEATERS! Academia
isn’t a huge museum, it’s just a small little building with
a couple of rooms, so it wasn’t too hard finding what we came
for. Michelangelo’s statue had his own room and was positioned
under a dome, had his own lighting system, as well as some high
tech toys around him, quite impressive, but I’m not sure it
was worth the time we spent in line and the money we spent to
get in. At least I can say that I’ve seen it though?
We made our way back to Leonardo’s
at 4 so that we could all get back to camp and get ready for
our group photo and Tuscan dinner. The photo turned out great,
and the dinner was ok, but it was all due to the good company.
The food wasn’t that impressive. After dinner, most of the group
went to the Space Electronique Disco thing, and I had originally
signed up for it, but then decided at the last minute to sell
my ticket to Danny, opting instead to just go back to camp.
Bet you can’t guess why!
